Have you ever thought about woodworking as a career? Perhaps carving figures is something that has always piqued your interest. Or maybe you aspire to cobble your own furniture or other household goods out of a slab of wood. There is always woodworking for the sake of entertainment purposes too; your next favourite hobby perhaps?
Whatever your reason to grab a piece of tree and transform it into something else might be, you are not alone. Crafters, artisans and professional woodworkers all share a love of trees and what they can create out of them.
Check out these neat ideas of what you could possibly create when you get it into your head to carve something;
IDEAS FOR WHAT TO CARVE
You could create entertainment pieces or games, like the cribbage board seen on the left,
or carve artwork from a standing tree trunk, like the old man seen here.
Perhaps some functional furniture is more to your liking, like this beautiful wooden cabinet carved by Todd Stockner.
Maybe you want to start with something a little simpler or less ornate, like these bowls.
Heck, people have used wood to craft, carve and create with for as long as they have had access to wood and the tools to manipulate it with! As CLC Tree Services is around wood an awful lot, we have access to plenty of trees that have the potential to be turned into anything from mulch, to firewood to even the ornate sculpture carved by Robbin Wenzoski as seen below.
Here is a chainsaw-carved couple that was commissioned by the City of London for the 2013 World Figure Skating Championships that will be held here in London, at Budweiser Gardens from March 11-17, 2013.
And as a special treat, the following video is the installation of it, compliments of a little hard work from the crew at CLC Tree Services and of course under Robbin’s watchful eye.
What would you carve if you had talent, wood and the inclination to create?
