Autumn Anticipation

How are the Fall Colours in your Area?

Autumn officially arrives this weekend. That makes it the perfect time for apple picking, pumpkin carving, and putting up the last of the preserves for winter. It is also when the leaves start to change on area trees, transforming our world into a rainbow of colours. Isn’t Mother Nature great to not only offer an ample harvest, but also to put on a show while doing it?

Frosty Leaves

A touch of frost will have leaves turning bright

While the trees haven’t produced much of an artist’s palette dream in London, Ontario just yet, it is coming. A hint of frost is just the trick to kick the trees into gear, and those Fall colours will to start emerge. Whether you like it or not, I think we will have to wait a while yet for the height of Autumn’s glory though. I don’t think we’ll be getting frost in the next two weeks, by the looks of the 14-day outlook on the Weather Network.

Book a Ride on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train to see the Fall Colours in Sault Ste Marie

For now, if you are itching to start the Autumn off with a wander through vibrantly coloured forests, you have to go a little further afield for your views in Ontario. Algonquin Park, North Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Parry Sound, Manitoulin Island and Owen Sound have all started their Fall shows. At Ontario “Yours to Discover”, you can find frequently updated Fall Colour Reports, as well as suggestions for Great Fall Drives.

In the meantime, why not content yourself with some other fall pastimes; pick some apples or pears from a local orchard, explore a corn maze at an area farm, take in a rural fall fair or collect your favourite bounty from your garden, farmer’s market or farm stand and pickle, jam, can, freeze and bake up a storm!
